Briefly about the points system
Drivers in the Czech Republic are subject to a points system, where they can receive between 2 and 7 points (depending on the severity) for offences. Ideally, you should have 0 points on your record; if you accumulate 12 points, you will lose your licence for one year.
And what if you only have a few points?
After a year of driving without any points, you will automatically have 4 points deducted. But you can also help yourself with the deduction proactively, for example by taking a safe driving course with the possibility of deducting up to 3 points.
TIP: If you don't know how you are doing with your points, just check online on the Citizen Portal, drop by a CZECHPOINT branch or any driver registry.
How does the skid school with points deduction work?
A skid school with points deduction, also called voluntary safe driving training for drivers, works similarly to a traditional safe driving school. First, you'll be taught the theoretical part of the course and then you'll get hands-on with the situations discussed. The difference is that the content of the training is decided by a decree of the Ministry of Transport and everything works in cooperation with accredited instructors. The difference is also that you must not have an escort with you.
The course is one day and lasts about 7 hours. Approximately 3.5 hours are devoted to theory, 3 hours will then be allocated to practicing crisis situations in practice. There will also be time for lunch and a final evaluation.
The skid school with points deduction can be completed in your own car at several locations in the country. You can improve your driving skills at the safe driving school in Most, Hradec Králové and even in Pribram. Everywhere you can try out crisis situations behind the wheel in the safe environment of a specially adapted polygon and under the supervision of an instructor.

And what will you try?
Thanks to special sliding surfaces, you will practice the correct reaction in a skid, on water obstacles you will learn to evaluate what to brake and when an evasive manoeuvre is needed. You can even try aquaplaning, where you lose contact with the road. You'll practice all this so that you won't be distracted by such situations in traffic.
Who can take the skid school with points deduction?
If you have a criminal record and don't want to risk losing your licence, this is the course for you. You just need to follow certain rules:
- - You can only take the course if you have no more than 10 penalty points on your record.
- - Your points must not include any offences of 6 points or more.
- - You can only take the course once per year, so deduct a maximum of 3 points.
What will you need for the course?
You will need a valid driving licence to attend the course , as well as a driver's points record which must be no more than 3 days old (before you register for the course). In addition to your licence, you should also bring your ID card and a small technician's licence.
But not to be outdone, you will of course first need to get a training voucher and book a date. Once you've booked your appointment, you'll need to fill in an application form, attach a score sheet and off you go. Subtracting points is simply more complicated than collecting them.

How do I take care of deducting points?
Simply attending the training is not enough to deduct points. You must submit a written application to the relevant authority no later than one month after the skid school . This application must be accompanied by a certificate of completion, which you will receive upon successful completion of the training (there are no exams, but you must be present from start to finish). Should you forget to send the application with the certificate, your right to deduct points will be lost without any refund.
3 points will be deducted from your account retroactively to the date of completion of the training. If you only had 2 points at that time, those will be deducted. If you had taken care of any other increase in your points account in the meantime, none of the newly accrued points will be debited.
