Esperanto Museum and the headquarters of the Czech Esperanto Association. There is also an interesting legend connected to Svitavy. During the Hussite wars, the last cow was left in the town. The inhabitants took its head and threw it over the walls. The Hussites then decided that if the people had enough food to throw over the walls, they had enough food and left.
A famous native is Oscar Schindler. A Nazi and an agent in German intelligence, but he became famous for his act of honour. He saved 1,200 Jews from deportation. This story was the basis for the film Schindler's List, which received several Oscar nominations.
Sports and nature lovers alike will appreciate the running circuits or cycling routes around the city. Architecture and history enthusiasts will enjoy the 13th-century Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Romanesque, later Baroque style, on Peace Square. However, the oldest church is St. Jilja's, now a cemetery church, from the 18th century. A rarity of the town is the very first postcard museum in the country.
