unique because of their sandstone structure, which allows the creation of various windows, gates and other similar formations. For example, the very rugged rock town of Bludiště, not far from Mšeno, has given rise to various climbing frames and chimneys and is therefore popular with children.
The biggest dominant feature of this area is without a doubt Kokořín Castle, which towers over the Kokořín Valley. It was built in the early 14th century and is therefore in the Gothic style. It was renovated at the beginning of the 20th century and has a romantic appearance today. Not far from this castle is the alleged "gate to hell", which is located at Houska Castle. It is shrouded in legends and other mysteries.
There are many natural attractions in the Kokořín valley. The most famous are the Pokličky, which are rock columns that look like mushrooms. The Kokořín region also extends into the Mácha region with the famous Mácha Lakes, and it also includes Bezděz Castle or the ruins of Ralsko. As a rarity in Kokořínsko, the ash-throated crane is protected (the largest population of this species is here) and the common wolf.
