Exit Srní
We have chosen the village of Srní as the starting point of our trip through Šumava. And not just because we have accommodation in Srní - or Srní, as the locals say. Mainly because it is a wonderful strategic point for exploring the central part of the Šumava National Park, the most beautiful part.
On the Trail of the Modrava Police
Did you like the TV Nova series Police Modrava? Then you will love Srní twice as much. Already on arrival you will recognize the legendary curve with the cottage. From there, you'll ascend to Srní and discover a peaceful world of beautiful nature and smiling people. You will also find them in the consumerism, which played an important role in the series.
Another advantage of Srní is that it is "friendly" for dog owners and families with strollers. Many beautiful places can be reached even on asphalt roads. After all, just walking through the village is an experience.
Hotels in Srní
The centre of the village is dominated by two hotels - formerly Hotel Srní and Hotel Šumava. The Hotel Sumava has now become a dependency of the main Hotel Srní. The advantage of these hotels is 100% comfort in the heart of the national park. They even have a 25m swimming pool which is free to guests, a hairdresser, massages, in short all the perks you can think of at **** hotels. The breakfasts are also excellent, with a tasting of regional cheeses and other delicacies.

Of course, you can also find other smaller guesthouses in the village at a lower price - here it depends on you what you expect from your stay and how much time you spend enjoying the hotel's wellness and gastronomic services.

Walking tours in Srní and its surroundings
From the hotel you can go to many interesting places. For a basic introduction, try the 8.4 km long Srní circuit around the village. For example, you can explore a part of the picturesque Vchynicko-Tetovsky Navigation Canal (1799-1800), along which loggers still used to float the harvested timber to the lowlands in the last century.

Klostermann's Cottage
A short distance from Srní you will also find the famous grove from the film trilogy Under the Badger Rock, On the Poacher's Trail and Behind the Thorn Bush. Tomáš Holý's grandfather lived in the original Sumava log cabin.
Wolf Enclosure
The recently built information centre and wolf trail in Srní is very popular with tourists. You will find the turn-off about 2 km behind Srní in the direction of Modrava. Park at the bottom of the large car park and head uphill for about a kilometre, from where you can watch the wolves from the lookout point. But beware, they are not always in the mood to be seen. They're just wolves.
Trips in Šumava within driving distance of Srní
There are two main roads leading away from Srní - the one on the left leads to the aforementioned wolf enclosure, and the one on the left leads to Modrava and Kvilda. The road straight ahead and then slightly to the right leads to Prášily and further to Železná ore. From there you can go to the Špičák mountain (1 202 m above sea level) and the Pancíř hill (1 214 m above sea level) with the now legendary door aka Šumava gate, which was installed here by enthusiasts from We love Šumava.
Close to Srní you will find many other interesting possibilities for trips.
Prášily
Before you reach the beautiful mountain village of Prášily, you will come across the Slunečná parking lot. From here you can go in 2 directions - a longer route of about 8km leads to the Poledník Lookout (1,315 m above sea level) and a shorter one, via the road, leads to the glacial Prášil Lake.
Further hikes from Prášil
Prasil itself has the beautiful atmosphere of a mountain village. From here you can go to many places - we recommend Lake Laka. From here, cyclists can follow the main road through Železná ore to Vyšší Brod.
When you go the other way
If you choose the second direction from Srní, you will head to Modrava and after that to Kvilda and Horská Kvilda. There is plenty to explore here too.
Modrava
The modernised village of Modrava (985 m) is worth a visit. From here, you can take a 7.5 km long gentle climb along the Modrava Stream to the secluded Beznik with a view of the German peak Luzný.

Sumava Moors
Whoever visits Sumava should get to know the local bogs. The Trijezerní slať with its romantic wooden paths can be reached from Modrava, on the other side of the road to Březník.
Slightly larger then is the nearby Jezerní slať. You can find it between Kvilda and Horská Kvilda. You can almost reach it by car, so it is a relaxing trip.

Kvilda
When you drive through Quilda, be sure to stop at the local famous bakery. But you probably won't go on a trip to Kvilda just for it, that would be a shame. Here you can admire, for example, the running of deer and lynx. You can take a longer trip to the lookout on Černá hora. At its foot you will also find the source of the Vltava, the longest Czech river. From here it's only a few steps to Germany
