Do you love the aquatic world and dream of navigating the waters of rivers, lakes, and seas? The first step toward realizing this dream is the preparatory skipper course for a small craft, also known as the VMP course (Small Boat Skipper course). This course will guide you through theory and practice, and upon completion, you'll almost have the VMP license in your pocket. All that's left is to attend the theoretical exam, for which the course captain will sign you up.

After passing the captain's exams and obtaining the VMP license, you'll be able to cruise the open seas and enjoy the wind in your hair as you please. The course on a Yamaha motorboat with 320 horsepower is led by experienced sea wolves, captains who assist with both the practical and theoretical aspects. During the course, future captains will learn everything they need to confidently venture onto the water and enjoy sailing with their own boat license (M+C) in their pocket.

The preparatory VMP course is also a fantastic  gift for water enthusiasts who talk about this dream but haven't yet taken the plunge to fulfill it.

Summary

Why choose this experience

  • Weekend course with practical and theoretical training
  • Teaching and driving under the guidance of experienced instructors of the SP Prague Boat School
  • The practical part takes place directly on a motor boat in Prague - Holešovice
  • After the course you will receive an application for the exam and a certificate of practice
  • The VMP M+C licence entitles you to drive motor boats up to 20 m in length, unlimited power, even at sea
  • Ideal gift for water and adventure lovers
  • The course is designed for people aged 16 and over

The VMP course takes about 6 hours and is divided into a theoretical part, practical part, and a practical exam, all of which take place on the boat.

During the theoretical part, every future captain will learn:

- the rules and regulations applicable both on rivers and seas (fairways, types of vessels, signage, safety precautions, etc.)

- the basics of first aid

During the practical part, you will learn:

- how to handle the boat during various maneuvers

- how to navigate through a lock

- how to correctly tie different types of knots

- how to correctly land the boat

- how to handle the boat in unstable conditions and at higher speeds

- how to handle emergencies on the water

At the end of the course, you will take the practical exam and receive a certificate of successful completion.

Is that all to acquire the VMP licence?

- In order to complete the VMP course and to obtain the licence, you will need to apply for a theoretical examination at the State Shipping Authority. The captains from the course will take care of all applications for you, so you don't have to worry about it. After applying, the date of the theoretical examination depends on the waiting period of the State Shipping Authority and its length is from 1–2 weeks (during fall, winter, and early spring) to 3 months (late spring, summer).

What will you be able to pilot after this course? What version of the licence is it?

After completing the course and all examinations, you will have a motorboat licence with:

- an unlimited engine power

- a vessel length of 20 meters

- a maximum of 12 persons on boards

- the possibility of water navigation and coastal navigation at sea up to 1 mile

Therefore, it is the most popular M+C licence.

Questions about the experience small Boat (VMP) Captain Course

Hello, I bought a voucher for my husband as a gift. In the description of the experience here on the website it says that "The course includes a guided cruise with a large cruise ship around Prague", but this is not written directly on the voucher. Thank you Zuzana Moravcová

Zuzana Moravcová

hello The theory part is in Czech, right? Can I take a translator with me, and if so, where can I register for the theory part after the course? I know the captain will arrange the theory part after the course, but I am interested in where to find it and where to take it because I am not that long in Prague. Kind regards Erik Krauland
