Testing Indigenous Weapons: From a Sling to a Bolas

During this experience, you will get a little bit of theory, some demonstrations by a professional, and then you can have fun with everything yourself. Jindřich Zobl, who has many years of experience in this field, will guide you through the weapon exhibition.

What weapons can you look forward to?

• Slingshot: make a simple leather slingshot and learn how to use it in several ways with a target practice. You can take the slingshot home with you so you can practice again outdoors.

• Hunting Cross: Learn how to throw a simple throwing weapon that was used to hunt small animals.

• Bolas: Three balls connected by leather straps used to tether a live animal at a distance, or to kill birds. You won't be throwing anything at the live animals, but you will learn the throwing technique to hit the target.

• Bullroarer: A word is a mighty weapon not only today. A bullroarer is a plate on a string used by Australian Aborigines, Indians and other ethnic groups to communicate over long distances. So it's no exaggeration to say that it was a kind of Aboriginal telephone.

• Spear Throwing: The names atlatl and woomera denote a wooden attachment that allows spears to be thrown much farther. Learn two throwing techniques and hit the target at both long and close range. You will also learn about how the extensions were manufactured, how to change the tips and what different types of spears there are.
