Ice Cream Making Course: Be an Ice Cream Maker for a Day in Plzeň

You’ll start at 9:00, before the ice cream stand opens to the public. First, you’ll get your bearings: the ice cream maker will show you everything the stand has to offer, introduce you to the products and take you on a brief journey through the history of soft-serve ice cream, the invention of the cone and the evolution of ice cream machines.

Then it’s time to change into an original T-shirt and apron personalised with your name, choose the flavour of the day from the store room and prepare the ice cream mix according to the manufacturer’s instructions. You’ll also discover what makes the different types of soft-serve ice cream unique.

Next comes preparing the professional Gel-matic machine. You’ll assemble it, set it up and learn how the settings affect the finished ice cream.

And now for the main event: serving the ice cream. After a little training, you’ll attempt to make the tallest ice cream possible, then take a photo and eat it. Your result will also be entered into the operator’s year-long competition for a special prize. To finish, you’ll create an ice cream masterpiece of your own using sprinkles, toppings and cones.

Do you need any previous skills? Not at all – throughout the experience, you’ll be supervised by an experienced ice cream maker. You won’t be serving customers; the stand is all yours. Do I need any experience of serving soft-serve ice cream?
Not at all. An experienced ice cream maker will teach you everything and stay with you throughout the programme. You’ll start with the basics, from preparing the mix and assembling the machine, before moving on to serving.

Can I give this experience to a child?
Yes, there is no age limit, so both children and adults can enjoy it. With the option for 2 people, you could visit the stand together with your child.

When and how do I book a date?
The experience is available every day from 9:00 to 11:00, all year round. The only exceptions are 24–26 December and 1 January. First, register your voucher at Adrop.cz, then you’ll receive the operator’s contact details. Make your booking at www.adrop.cz/rezervace. You’ll arrange a date with them by email, at least 10 days in advance. The voucher is valid for 12 months.

Where exactly does the experience take place?
At the operator’s ice cream stand on Majerova Street in Plzeň. If the stand has to close, the experience will take place at another stand run by the same operator in Plzeň.

Will I be serving real customers?
No. The programme takes place outside the stand’s opening hours, so there will be no queue waiting for you and you can focus on serving and tasting at your own pace.

What will I take home from the experience?
A T-shirt, an apron personalised with your name, a certificate of completion and a 500 ml tub of ice cream that you’ve served yourself. Your tallest ice cream will also be entered into the operator’s year-long competition.
