Want to take a firm grip on the helm? Then get your skipper's licence first so you can get a clear idea of how to tame the waves and wind.

What course do you need?

You can jump on a sailboat up to 12 m2 sail area and a powerboat up to 4 kW without a skipper's licence. What qualifications do you get with the following courses?

VMP - small craft pilot (theory): after completing this 6-hour course you can sail on inland waterways in the Czech Republic and abroad on recreational craft with an engine up to 20 kW and a sailboat up to 20 m2 of sail area.
MPZ - International Maritime Licence (theory): the 4-hour course extends the VMP licence and entitles you to pilot recreational craft up to 20 m in length within 1 nautical mile of the coast. Winds must not exceed Beaufort Scale 4 and wave heights must be less than 1.2m. However, if you want to sail a boat with engine power over 20 kW or sail area over 20 m2, you need practice.
Sailboats (theory): this 3-hour course qualifies you to sail sailboats, it is an extension of the VMP and MPZ licences. For engine power over 20 kW or sail area over 20 m2, practice is required.
Sailboat practice test (practice): a 6-hour practical course that will enable you to sail a sailboat over 20 m2 sail area. This course always follows the theoretical training.
Powerboat practice test (practice): a 4-hour practical course with which you will be able to drive a vessel with an engine power of over 20 kW.
