An old legend from the Erzgebirge tells us that in a village called Prünles (now Studenec) there once lived a hunting adjutant named Johann. He fell in love with a young girl, but because his salary was too low, he could not marry the girl because the competition from the richer farmers' sons was too great.

And as chance would have it, one day a big fire broke out in the next village. Johann helped to put it out with the other villagers, but he was the only one who heard the cries for help from a nearby broken-down shed. He pulled Walter out of there, who, along with thanks, pressed a gold ring into his hand. He also begged him not to reveal to anyone that he had seen it there, and so Johann did.

They didn't meet again until a year later at the pub, and Walter thanked Johann for being able to keep his mouth shut. Maybe that was why he offered Johann a good income now and then. And so they started smuggling goods in and out of Germany together. But one day they had a disagreement and Johann mortally wounded Walter. His body and the smuggled gold were never recovered...
