It's only been on offer for a few days and it's already a hit. But what does everyone see in it? I mean, it's like a computer game... and I'm not exactly the prototypical gamer. I'd rather run outside or jump out of a plane than sit in front of a computer . But I'm open to anything new, so I was pretty excited about the VR goggles gift box. And since it's supposedly fun for the whole family, there were four of us to do it.

It's here! The VR box has arrived.
I have to admit, my first impression was very positive. The box that the virtual reality arrived in is very cool. The VR goggles, controllers and the so-called magic box are all nicely safe in there and look like some kind of luxury gift. I'll take that.

The boys immediately set about plugging virtual reality into the TV, but I had to stop them - because they said anyone can do it. Let's see. I'm not exactly a technical talent (but don't tell anyone), so I expected to need them anyway. Wrong!
Plugging in VR was a breeze
One cable to the TV, push a button and I'm in! It's like I turn on virtual reality every day. The guys who developed the VRforYou package really went to the trouble of making sure that everyone could turn it on. Because classic virtual reality has to connect to wi-fi, you have a thousand cables and a normal person like me is in the dark. But this is different. You know exactly what to do and everything works like clockwork.
The VR game is on!
After setting up the space I was going to play in, I had about 10 VR games to choose from, but I didn't know any of them.
VR games that are on the menu:
-
Beat Saber VR - the most popular VR game ever
-
SuperHot VR - Matrix Live
-
GunClub VR - a classic shooter
-
Fruit Ninja VR - action packed fruit chopping with a katana
-
Eleven Table Tennis VR - ping pong
-
The Room VR - virtual escape game
-
The Climb VR - rock climbing
-
Tilt Brush VR - relaxing 3D painting
-
Job Simulator VR - a trial occupation
-
Angry Birds - Isle of Pigs VR - a fun classic (not only) for kids
I trust the pros, so I chose the Beat Saber game first. I hear it's the most successful VR game worldwide and it gets even people who aren't avid gamers. The official video looked good...
Wow! After 20 minutes (or was it 40?) of playing, the boys had to nudge me to let them get to it too! It's a blast! Because as soon as I put the VR goggles on my head, it was like I was transported to another world. The living room disappeared and a completely realistic other world opened up all around me. I was climbing rocks in Vietnam, chopping fruit in an Asian temple, clearing the area of enemies (that's what it's called when you shoot them all) and also chopping dice to the beat of the music.

I've never experienced anything like it. My brain was aware that I was still at home in the living room, but it let me enjoy the feeling of being completely engulfed by the world of VR gaming.
The middle school!
We took turns playing regularly and had a really great evening. I don't even know how it flew by. We finished at 2am and what can I tell you, we had rented VR for two days, so we'll do it again in the morning.
It's cool that I was wrong and virtual reality isn't just like playing on a computer. It's fun for those who like people, movement and fun. Just for everyone. When you're watching someone else play, or making fun of a person wearing goggles, it's just cool.

I didn't expect to be this excited about virtual reality, but now I want to take it home! What about you, have you tried it yet?
