Take a ski mountaineering course - during a weekend course in Austria, you'll strap on your ski boots and discover the snow-covered mountains from a completely different angle. All this under the guidance of experienced instructors who will adapt the lessons to your abilities and experience. Beginners and advanced skiers alike will enjoy the experience.
What are skialps and how do they compare to downhill skis and cross-country skis?
Skialp skis are a dream come true for skiing and hiking enthusiasts. Unlike downhill skis, you don't have to wait for a lift on a skialp, but thanks to special climbing tracks you can ski your way up the hill. In order not to strain yourself unnecessarily, the skis are lightweight and the heel is relaxed for walking, it is fixed only for downhill. Compared to cross-country skis, you can lace downhill quite dynamically on these skis because they handle well. Skialps on your feet don't just limit you to the slopes or cross-country trails and it's definitely more of an adventure.

What to wear and take with you?
Appropriate clothing for the experience is a windbreaker, gloves, breathable materials, hat or scarf, helmet, sunglasses,...Více headlamp. Bring a drink and snack.

The weekend course for beginners and advanced skiers takes place in the picturesque town of Taxenbach in the Zell am See district of Austria. There, you'll receive a detailed theory session to discuss the safety aspects of this winter sport and how to use the equipment, as well as hike in the enchanting mountain scenery. The ski tour will be tailored to your experience and fitness level so that everyone will find something to suit them.
Courses run from December to March or April, always depending on the specific snow conditions. The course always starts on Friday with theory (6pm to 9pm), continues on Saturday (9am to 5pm) with practice added to the theory and finishes with a ski tour on Sunday (until 2pm).
The price of the weekend skialp course includes:
- Theoretical instruction (Friday): explanation of avalanche issues, safe movement in the terrain, route planning, first aid, basic avalanche equipment (backpack with airbag, beeper, probe, shovel);
- familiarisation with skialp equipment and its control (Saturday): control of skis, special bindings, technique of controlling climbing belts and telescopic poles;
- skialp tours on Saturday and Sunday;
- skialp equipment rental if you do not have your own.
The price of the course does not include transport to and from the course or accommodation. If you would like to secure more convenient accommodation with partner guesthouses (including half board), please advise when booking your experience.
Remember to dress well. A waterproof jacket and trousers, a beanie, warm gloves (ideally one thin one for going up and one warm one for going down) and ski and sunglasses should definitely not be left at home.
