We tested the world's hottest chip and more
Since the times have not been kind to classic experiences, Dan and I have tested at least our best hmootniks or material gifts. Because even the taste buds deserve a treat!
No adrenaline was needed to break the stereotype this time, it was enough to shoot promo videos for the material gifts, which we unwrapped and even tasted. You don't want to buy a rabbit in a bag! What was filmed and tasted?
Bonbonniere from dried meat
As a jerky lover, I was really looking forward to the meat bonboniere. It's made of finely ground Czech beef. Each candy is wrapped separately in foil - golden colour for the soft pralines, red for the spicy ones. I was a little surprised that they were harder than the jerky I know. After a while, I got used to the texture, which is just different by the fact that the meat is ground. The meat candies are pleasantly spicy and the spicy ones really burn. At least before tasting the hottest chip, then they seemed perfectly mild.
World's hottest tortilla chip
Yes, this is the chip we're talking about. Even the little coffin-shaped box suggested that this would be death to my palate. But they looked like they were really going to enjoy it with all their might and definitely didn't want to get dull. I prayed that my mucous membranes wouldn't peel, exhaling fire and wiping my tears as I did so. Luckily, the package comes with a latex glove to protect your hand so you don't cry even more afterwards.
He's just a little crumb, but he's nicely rolled in two of the world's hottest peppers - Carolina Reaper and Trinidad Moruga Scorpion. Both with a hotness of around 2 million SHU. Perhaps the only thing hotter is peppercorn, and I've yet to discover that not all peppercorns are either. If you have someone in your neighborhood for whom no food is spicy enough and they praise Vindaloo chicken for its mild flavor, give them this chip. And definitely get your camera ready, it'll be worth it. You might as well enter him in a contest to win an iPhone - just share the feat on social media under the hashtag #PoctivehoNepali.
For those who doubt their honesty, we recommend having a glass of milk handy to douse the fire at least a little.
A gift for fishermen
Pliers, goldfish, knife and reel. At first glance, there's no indication that it's edible. And it really can! It's all made of 58% chocolate. As these are quite large pieces, I thought the chocolate would be hollow. But it's not, so bite carefully.
Moravian wine tasting package
The perfect combination of education and good drinking. In addition to 6 bottles of wines from the Očenášek winery, the package also includes a brochure and a tasting sheet. So even though my ability to distinguish wines ends at red/white and like/dislike, here I finally learned a lot more. From serving temperature to proper tasting to the winemaker's own assessment. After all, when you know what to look for in a wine (I don't mean right now), things go better.
Even if the bottles are half the volume, you'd better invite other tasters to taste so you remember some of the new information the next day. The gift pack allows for up to four tasters.
Tasting set for beer drinkers
This set is the perfect gift for all beer fans. Especially if they're into honest craft. Mufloni from the Kunratice brewery is unfiltered and unpasteurised, and the taste shows. The gift pack of beers includes everything from a light 11° to a semi-dark 12° and a pleasantly bitter ale to seasonal specials.
Honest whisky from the Czech Republic
Whisky isn't just about Scotland. In fact, Trebitsch single malt whisky is sourced from the Czech Republic, made from local ingredients and matured in oak casks for 3 years. It smells beautifully of oak wood, vanilla and caramel and is rather mild in taste. The beautiful wooden packaging makes it a great gift for lovers of fine spirits.
Kampot pepper in a tube
Even a seemingly ordinary ingredient like pepper can make a perfect gift. This pepper is not ordinary at all. It is Kampot pepper, which is grown in southern Cambodia and carries a certificate of origin. What makes it so unique? Each ball is hand-picked, organically grown and fair trade, so you're supporting the farmer directly with your purchase. The wooden box contains 3 pepper tubes and a divine wooden grinder with a ceramic grinding mechanism. No foodie can resist this.
Chilli Sauce Gift Pack
The last hobo will also delight gourmets who are at home in the kitchen. This is a gift pack of barbecue sauces, chilli sauces and last but not least, a pack of world award-winning chilli sauces and chutneys. Barbecue time is inexorably approaching, so get well equipped!
Well, I've got a birthday present for at least half the family sorted! ;)
