Castles and chateaus around Prague on foot and from a bird's eye view
Do you love history and monuments? The surroundings of Prague offer many sights worth visiting. Among the most important is without a doubt Karlštejn Castle, founded by Charles IV in 1348 to serve as a place to store royal treasures and crown jewels. You can take the train to the castle.
One of the most beautiful castles in the Prague area is certainly Konopiště, located a short distance from Benešov. It is surrounded by a beautiful park that invites you to take a leisurely stroll. You can also see an exhibition of weapons and hunting trophies at the castle.
Křivoklát Castle, one of the oldest and most important castles in the Czech Republic, is also worth mentioning, boasting a rich history and beautiful Gothic interiors. Another charming place is Mělník Castle, which offers a breathtaking view of the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers and the opportunity to taste wines from local vineyards.
All of these sights and others that come to mind can be enjoyed without crowding with other tourists. Just take a bird's eye view of them. It's up to you whether you choose to enjoy a peaceful balloon ride or take in the sights from the deck of a helicopter.

Where to go in the countryside around Prague?
For nature lovers and hikers who are not afraid of a kilometre on their feet, the Bohemian Karst is the perfect place. The area offers beautiful limestone rocks, caves and a view of the Velká Amerika quarry, which resembles a small Czech Grand Canyon. The route also passes Karlstejn Castle, so you can combine a trip through nature with a bit of culture and history.
You will also find unspoilt nature and sightseeing in the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area. There you can even rent goats for a walk. Because everyone has a dog on a leash nowadays. :)
You can never have enough animals, if you want to admire wild horses, bison or prairie dogs, head to the Milovice Nature Reserve, where time has gone back thousands of years.

If you want to make your visit to the natural attractions even more special, head to Brandýs nad Labem, where you can try surfing on the river. This is the only place in the whole Czech Republic.
Always make sure you know what distance to expect on your maps when you're walking around Prague - that way you can make sure that even the smallest members will be able to do everything on the left. Or just with a little whine.

Want to enjoy a day out as it should be? Take a day trip from Prague to Milovice, where endless army experiences await you. Not to mention the fact that there used to be a military base here. Now you can take a ride in a tank or in a Bevépéček - both monsters you can also drive. For a little more skill, there's an adrenaline-pumping ATV quad bike ride or an off-road driving course in a Land Rover. Milovice will thrill military and history enthusiasts.

Don't worry, the kids will have fun too. The Mirakulum amusement park in Milovice is an absolute paradise for children. On several hectares there are climbing frames, slides, mazes and a water world - ideal for a family day out.
And you want to go for a swim and a water adventure? Head to Orlik and become a sailing boat captain for the day. Never mind that you've only read about sailing up to now. You'll learn everything on the spot.
Where to go on a trip around Prague by train?
A train trip from Prague offers a touch of romance, and you can still feel good about doing something nice for nature. And feel free to have a sour one on the way, if it comes to that. Just all the benefits. We mentioned Karlštejn in the introduction, where to next?

Kutná hora is one of the most beautiful places you can visit in Central Bohemia. The train journey takes around an hour and you can take a direct connection or change trains in Kolín. Be sure not to miss the St. Barbara's Cathedral, the gardens at the Jesuit College and the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. And if you're interested in the history of silver mining, head to Hrádek, home to the Czech Museum of Silver with a tour that includes a medieval mine - just beware, it's not for the claustrophobic.

The Sázava Monastery, with its unfinished Gothic church, is another place to visit. The journey from the main railway station takes about an hour and a half with a change in Čerčany, from where you take the so-called Posázava Pacific passing through the valley of the Sázava River.

The spa town of Poděbrady is accessible from Prague by train in 50 minutes. You can enjoy a walk in the spa park, visit the colonnade or taste the local healing springs.
