The most beautiful climbing sites in Slovakia

The most beautiful climbing sites in Slovakia

Wonderful climbing opportunities await just over the border, Slovakia not only has many amazing lakes, but also hundreds of great climbing routes. Come with us to see the most beautiful ones.

The amazing Súlov limestone for experienced climbers

Around the picturesque village of Súlov, not far from Žilina, there are a huge number of rock formations made of limestone, which are great to climb and surprisingly easy to climb. Nature has created interesting shapes such as mushrooms, needles or towers. This is a protected area, because it is a beautiful undisturbed nature. However, there are also various restrictions during the year for this reason, a updated list of which can be found on the internet. Climbing is allowed all year round on the Table, the School Tower and the Tower above the fireplace.

The rocks are divided into 4 areas - Maple, Under the Castle, Chin and Black, with the first two being the most popular. There are several hundred paths ranging from 10 to 40 metres in length, and small sharp holds and steps, holes and crevasses predominate.

Unforgettable High Tatras for everyone

It would be a sin to omit the High Tatras, a mountain range near the town of Poprad, from this list. Thanks to the combination of Tertiary granite massif and glacier activity in the Quaternary, they have acquired their specific character. There are mainly classical climbing terrains here, everyone from beginner to advanced climber will find their place here. Among the well-known walls are Osharpance, Gallery Gank, then Chaty pri Zelené pleso, Hawk Tower, Proud Peak, of course also Gerlachovský štít and many others. The climbing is as challenging as the weather, but the views are spectacular and the final impression is unforgettable.

Crazy - Cool Climbing

This old climbing site in the Little Carpathians below Plavecky Castle has something to offer. You will find here about 150 routes of varying difficulty. The limestone walls are around 50 metres high, the whole massif is 300 metres high. Every climber can really enjoy them, as there are a number of different holds, stupas and joints. The most popular climbing sections include the Venus Tower, the Angel Tower and the Ajda section.

The whole area has the highest level of protection and therefore it is only possible to climb here between 15.6 and 15.3.

Fakle Spars - Slovak Indian Creek

The only area in Slovakia that is exclusively for crack climbing will simply blow your mind. The climbing lines in this magical region near Prievidza are attracting more and more pair climbing enthusiasts. It takes stamina, it takes strength, but most importantly it takes the right technique. Otherwise, you just can't get the cracks. Near the well-known Hrádok area in the Vtáčník Mountains, there are mostly smooth slabs interspersed with cracks. There are about 30 cleared routes and many minutes of sheer concentration and adrenaline waiting for you. Make sure you don't forget your pads and friends at home, because you can also set up your own belay between the boulders. But it is not necessary.

Machnato Ski Area - crumbly but great

In Liptov, not far from the village of Lúčky in the Demänovská Dolina, you'll find this complex nestled in a rather steep hill. It offers about 60 paths of varying difficulty up to about 30 metres in length, lots of towers and barriers made of limestone. Here it really is a classic crumbly moss-covered rock. So don't even think about climbing in the rain or wet

During the whole climb you will have a wonderful view of the Low Tatras and enjoy alternating slab climbing, overhangs, joints and corners. So there is something for everyone.
