One tough guy after another
A week before our paintball date, we received a mass email that split us into two teams. Team A was Slovak Adrop and the externs, Team B was made up of members of the Czech Adrop team. The advantage?
When else can you take a shot at a chatty colleague, boss, or even a programmer for being late with something? So the last messages in our internal communication were full of challenges and harsh words. I'm sure you can imagine...
Preparation
After arriving to the paintball arena Mlýn in Liberec, we were waiting for a perfectly prepared background. Tables, buffet, bar, dance floor and very friendly staff. After a short welcome we agreed that first we would go upstairs to play and then we would start having fun. That's why we're here

So, after a toast to courage, we were taken in by a great instructor, Jirka (he didn't know what he was going to find with us).
Not a shot without protection
He explained that we would get overalls, women also protective vests (because you really don't want to get hit in the chest by a paintball), knee pads (if someone plans to aim from the knees or beg for mercy), helmets, goggles and most importantly guns and bullets. And there were plenty of those

We learned that the teams would be distinguished by the color on their weapons and a little phalanx hanging from their helmets.
Well, we also wondered if we could tell who was with us and who was against us...
We also found that the guns weren't set at full power, but they were probably only firing at ... I don't remember the number, but at about the speed that would cause a very nice bruise when hit from a distance. But let's not get ahead of ourselves...

Fight on!
Jirka went up with us to act as referee and stood boldly in the middle of the battlefield. The arena has 4 floors in total and is filled with pallets, walls, car wrecks, tires, sniper nests (watch out for those!) barrels, bags and more. Combined with the gloom, it's simply the perfect battlefield for paintball.
We played 3 types of games in total.
First, two teams against each other with the goal to blast away all opponents. Easy and clear assignment. They ran out of houses opposite each other and then it was up to each team what tactics they chose. We chose not to choose a tactic and lost.... The opponents chose the "hit everything that moves" tactic... and they hit everything, even Jirka. In the crotch. Of course, he admitted that he was the one who was a little bit at fault, but he covered himself a lot more in the next few games.
The object of the second type of game was to get the flag that was hanging in the exact middle of the battlefield before your opponent and bring it to your house. It doesn't matter how many team members fall in the process, the important thing is to bring it... we were second in that, too. Of the two.
The third type of game was similar to the first, except that everyone had 3 lives. You get hit, you go back to the house and you're back in the game.
The basic rule was (or should have been) that you don't shoot in the house...Oh yeah, but there were times when someone didn't realize they were in the house and shot all the opponents they saw there.
I don't know my brother!
After three hits, we gradually gathered downstairs at the buffet. But after a while, it turned out that we had one whole team gathered together and they were still shooting upstairs. The game got heated and it was everyone against everyone for the overall winner. Well, it was great, but I really didn't want to be up there at the end...
| How did it turn out? - 1 overall win - Hundreds of rounds fired - 11 hits to the head - First game in the history of the arena to feature blood - lots of blueberries - slight pain the next day (but that may have been related to the alcohol and dancing at the party) - an incredible load of endorphins and great mood |
With a twist?
Most of the ladies said it was divine, but we might as well try something else next time. The men's side of the team was absolutely delighted, some were already planning their next games, others had even recruited for the home arena team. But we all had a great time!
Would you like to enjoy it too? Don't hesitate and go for it!
